Saturday’s ladies and gents singles stableford attracted almost 90 players, and it was Ulster Cup player Peter Lawrance (14) who won with 43 points. Five pars and one birdie on the front nine were followed with six pars on the back, which showed how good Peter’s form is at the moment. The runner was was forer member Jim Nicell (17) with 41 points, with Colm Doherty (13) next best score of 40 for third place. Jason McLaughlin was the winner of the gross prize (30 points), and Jimmy Hegarty and Brendan Deehan won the nines prizes with 22 and 23 points respectively. Margaret Canavan (18) was the clear winner of the ladies section with a superb 38 points. Back to back birdies at the third and fourth holes were undoubtedly the highlight of her card. This followed up her victory on Thursday’s ladies day competition. The Victor Fiorentini Cup singles stroke was the latest in the Player of the Year competitions on Sunday and it was a phenomenal score of 61 by Gerard Harvey (14) that was the worthy winner of top prize. Three over par on each half of the course including a birdie at the fifteenth hole gave Gerard two shots over the field. Playing his first round at the club for a while, Louis McHugh (14) took second place with a better inwardnine scoreleaving Philip Devlin (16) in third place after both players had totals of 63. The gross went to Willie Havlin for his two over par round, and the nines were taken home by Willie O’Donnell (29.5) and Charlie McHenry (28). This weekend there will be a ladies and gents open played on Saturday. The club’s Ulster Cup team will also be competing, with their second round first leg match against Ardminnan due to start at3.00pm. Sunday’s competition is the qualifying session for the Pierce Purcell Shield with fourteen clubs fromDerryand Donegal playing for the four matchplay berths available.  

Ladies Report.

Margaret Canavan (19) was the winner of the Duncreigh Cup singles stroke on Thursday last after break of tie. She tied on 69 with Marian Devlin (14) but the decision went in favour of Margaret. In third place was Magdalene McDermott (28) on 71, with Pauline Casey winning the gross prize. This week’s competition is a ladies open stableford with the proceeds going to the Moville Day Centre. The Lady Captains Outing has been arranged for 24 May at Newtownstewart. A sheet has been put on the notice board in the ladies locker room for interested players to sign up to. A bus has been booked for the trip, with various pick up points arranged.
